Towards an alliance of the airlines of Indian Ocean region

The airlines of country members of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) will sign a cooperation agreement establishing the “Vanilla Alliance“ on June 18, 2015 in Antananarivo.

The cooperation agreement will significantly and concretely improve air service between the countries of Indian Ocean and abroad.

Air Austral, Air Madagascar, Air Mauritius, Air Seychelles and the Ministry of Transport of the Union of Comoros until the appointment of a carrier in the country, agree to jointly defend their common interests and enhance international connectivity between the islands concerned while ensuring that fares remain attractive for passengers. This initiative will improve regional competitiveness by strengthening and boosting tourism, traffic, business and trade.

Marie-Joseph Malé, CEO of Air Austral and president of the “IOC Airlines Committee “, said that the regional dialogue impelled by the IOC, “marks a major turning point for regional air transport”.

In parallel, the civil aviation authorities of the region, forming part of the civil aviation committee of the IOC, is working on the possibility of establishing a shared regulatory framework as well as the strengthening of administration capacities concerning training and safety.
