The Competition Commission to investigate South African Airways and Mango Airlines
The Competition Commission has confirmed it will investigate a potential breach of the Competition Act by South African Airways and Mango Airlines.
Following the claims made by SAA against Mango Airlines regarding the leasing of aircraft and the airline’s routes, the Competition Commission is investigating SAA’s subsidisation of Mango Airlines.
"We will be ensuring that the (Competition Commission) sees this investigation out to the end and does so in a quick and efficient manner. We will be ensuring that the ever-influential chairperson of SAA, Dudu Myeni, does not use her political connections to interfere with the investigation," said Natasha Mazzone, the DA’s public enterprises spokeswoman.
The investigation hopes to determine the amount omitted by SAA because of the subleasing agreement, the cost to taxpayers and the benefits and possible flaws to SAA in leasing aircraft to Mango.
