Pilot screening tool for South African market

Symbiotics Ltd, part of the Resource Group, has formed a working partnership with Ascenso, a South African aviation recruitment company to provide a suite of computerised applicant screening tools, known as Adapt that will be used throughout South Africa and across the region.

The Adapt suite is said to offer a blended assessment of the skills of the pilot alongside the impact of behaviour, culture, personality and technology on them. The tool is unique in that it blends aviation and performance psychology with psychometrics and simulation.

With the new screening tools in place, registered pilots will have a head start by being able to give potential employers a preview of their strengths and capabilities, before the assessment process has even begun. This could mean the time between registration to selection and training is faster, saving time and money for all concerned.

Airlines and operators will in turn have a better understanding of the candidates they are selecting, safe in the knowledge the tests are bespoke to their industry and that the data is accurate.

Nikki Heath, director of Symbiotics said: “We’re proud to build relationships with partners in new territories, particularly where ADAPT can be used cross-culturally to the advantage of both our partner and their clients.”

Ascenso director, Chelaine Albertse, said: “As far as screening and assessment goes, a number of tools have emerged in the South African markets but few of them are as broad spectrum as ADAPT. There is a chasm within our market that a battery of tests are not suitable for specific cultures, however what we have seen so far is that ADAPT goes a long way in breaching this.”
