KAPLA calls for management change at Kenya Airways
Kenya Airlines Pilots Union (KALPA) has called on the Kenyan government to change the management of Kenya Airways, in order to reverse the carrier's loss.
In the past five years, the carrier’s stocks have dropped by 87%, and it recorded a net loss of KES26.2 billion shillings in the year ending in March.
"The historic losses are a testament to what we have been saying all along that Kenya Airways is in desperate need of new leadership and direction,” said Paul Gichinga, KAPLA Secretary General.
Since a turnaround strategy drawn up by McKinsey & Company in February, the carrier has let go of 500 members of staff, reduced its fleet and sold its landing slot at London Heathrow airport.
