President Ali Bongo released a statement on the matter explaining that the new project comes as a joint venture between the Gabonese government and Paramount Group – a South African defence firm.

When releasing the launch, Bongo said: “My vision for Africa has always been that of an integrated continent. An Africa where every citizen has the opportunity to afford air travel and take advantage of the benefits of being economically mobile. The launch of Gabon FlyAfrica.com, a pan-African airline, is an important step in implementing this vision.”

The airline is planning to start operation later this year, including domestic flights between Libreville and Port Gentil, ch-aviation reports.
