In his address, the Chairman focused on the improved financial and operational results as well as the strategic decisions of Air Mauritius for the long-term sustainability of the airline. He commended the upgrading of Air Mauritius from a 3-Star to a 4-Star airline status by Skytrax as an achievement that would reinforce the company’s position on the market. This distinction had taken Air Mauritius to an Elite group of 36 airlines worldwide.

Mr. Thomas confirmed to the assembly that Air Mauritius had completed the order for six Airbus A350-900 in replacement of the current long haul fleet of A340s. Two of the aircraft will be acquired on Operating Lease from AerCap and would be available as from 2017. The four others to be purchased directly from Airbus, will be delivered in 2019-2020.

In his presentation, the CEO, Mr. Andre Viljoen, gave an overview of the Business Model Overhaul that the company went through during the past 2 years. He talked about the 2 commitments taken when the 7-Step Plan was launched in February 2012.
He showed how both commitments had been met in spite of an operating environment that had not improved:
- Profitability was restored within 2 years as profits of EUR 7.3 million (representing an improvement of EUR 36.5 million over 2 Financial Years) were posted for 2013-2014.
- Long term sustainability of the business ensured with new generation aircraft ordered to maintain competitiveness of Air Mauritius on the market.

The CEO explained the choice of the A350-900 and gave details of the “rigorous, thorough and transparent” process supporting the decision. He also gave details of the company’s plan to continue on the path of ‘Mauritianising’ the company’s cockpit crew.
